People do not earn Ph.D. for money. A Ph.D. gives you prestige and you literally stand tall in the crowd for the rest of your life. People call you 'Dr.', which has more value than anything. Most importantly faculties NEVER lose their jobs once they are tenured......NEVER. There is NOTHING in this universe that can fire a Professor (excepting criminal offenses, academic dishonesty etc.). They never fear that their employer will ill treat them, not pay them, yale at them etc. etc. It takes years of blood and sweat (and intelligence) to earn a Ph.D. Society treats them with reputation and not no mention they live a peaceful life (professionally) throughout their lives.

Every other year, there is election and only this damn. election drives what is done and what is not done in congress year after year. The good old time, bills are passed that are important and good for the general people and this some times was not popular, but now only the issues popular are are being taken and rather than voting on what is good, the law makers tend to go with what people like, and people's likes and dislikes keep changing and the same change work against them sometimes. Also people on one area does not like what is liked in other area and when we have a product that contains both, well the same people now unite and start to not like the final product and this goes on ..... It is same CHANGE that President Obama mentions too often, but the same change is Now liked by Republicans, and Dems did not like the change this time around. Also with the communication revolutions, the election campaign seems to have become much much long.... And Oh !! Well... now our President apart from Health Care Reform, Immigration Reform and climate change issue, also need to work on his re-election from now on, if he doesn't want the change he loves some much, in White House in 2012 election... HOPE - at least people in this group, see CHANGE for better, CHANGE from AOS to LPR .... Now, let us see what will this loss of filibuster majority by Dems do in the interim.... Only time can tell. Change we can believe in !!!

PD is important . inorder to use the visa numbers the applicant whose FP & name check is cleared but Pd is not current but other applicant whose Pd is current but name check is not cleared The person who cleared will get the priority instead of PD . one of my friend got like this . so its cat & mouse game anyone can get it

Brief Description of my Case Joined Vision Systems Group INC,(VSGInc), Southplains Field, NJ in the year March 2003. My H1B was transferred to VSG Inc from my previous company which got merged with another company. VSG Inc filed my Labor Certification in 2003 (EB3) on Dec 23,2003 which has gone to Back Log Center, Harrisburg, PA and got approved only in Dec, 2006. In July 2006 VSG Inc, filed PERM under EB2 and got approved and filed I140 under EB2. But when USCIS sent RFE, my company has withdrawn the I140 without responding to RFE. In July 2007, during 2007 visa fiasco, VSG Inc filed I140 electronically, and I485 and other papers concurrently in July 02, 2007. Got the receipt notices for I140 dated 07-02-2007 and for I485 and others on 06-05-2008. Received EAD and travel docs in July 2008. My I140 is still pending at Nebraska Service center as on date. When contacted trough the Local Congress Man, Dept. Of Home land Security replied on Feb 09, 2009 as follows: �The processing of I-140 has been delayed, not yet ready for decision as it has been selected for extended security review, independent of FBI name check and fingerprints. Until the review is completed, we cannot move forward on this case. We will make every effort to make a decision on this case as soon as the review is complete. However, we have contacted the security team POC to see if this case can be reviewed to see if it can be moved for adjudication.� VISION SYSTEMS GROUP, INC., a New Jersey Domestic Profit Corporation, with a branch office in Coon Rapids, Iowa, was also indicted in a ten count federal indictment that included one count of conspiracy, eight counts of mail fraud, and one count of �Notice of Forfeiture� in the amount of $7,400,000. One of my friend's collegue had issues in getting his citizenship because he changed
job in less than 6 months of getting GC. Don't know too many details but I know that

Applying to a top MBA program is quite intense, especially if you come from a competitive applicant pool. eg: laid off investment banker (plenty of those headed to B-school), Indian-engineer, Chinese-anything, etc. Are you sure you want to go through the effort and expense of the application process if you cannot attend? It takes about 3-4 weeks to put a serious application package together - maybe you can put this time to better use by applying to a program that you can actually attend. That can also be a plan-B in case something goes wrong with the GC application.
Think it through and good luck with your decision. Wish you the Best.

My lawyer told me the backlog is 400K. As an European, I am expecting to wait between 2 to 3 years for my GC. Anything sooner would be a nice surprise!

I did have a LUD on 09/05 and 09/08 and then RFE was issued. Responded to the RFE on 09/22 . LUD on 09/22, 09/23 ,09/29 and 09/30.

There were atleast 7-8 cases from NSC on this board who received RFE's.
Can you please tell us what the RFE was about....Did you use AC21.
Me and my spouse both have RFE....so i dont know what to expect. And I have used AC21 and changed jobs....I am just hoping it is not related to this.

Well things are really tough out here (US), even volunteering is not allowed ...... :confused:
Again thanks to all the guys who posted , 50% say its ok to volunteer, 50% say it is not ok as we are displacing an american worker's job.
It makes it more confusing.
Let me ask one more question here, is it ok to volunteer on h4 visa for a non-profit organization like hospital.......
But man, this is really so bad for folks on H4 visa, what fault is theirs that they cannot even try to bring out their skills and work in this land of opportunity (for no salary).

I got the Card Production Ordered e-mail today. No LUD even last night at 1 Am. Only one LUD today. My case is processed at Texas service center. And my receipt date is not with in their processing times.

I have same concerned. I have been waiting for too long to get my GC procee done. I can't live with current employer any longer. I am waiting for 1-485 to be filled. My PD is sept 03. Do you guys have any feeling if we can file it before this summer (like July)? Another concern is based on current situation with USCIS, it is about 8 month wait for I-485 to be processed. As you mentioned, it might be longer waiting time for this process since many people who had waited, will be filing. Please give me your feeling of feasibility date. Thanx.

I need advice..My project ended yesterday and I have another opportunity to work on EAD. I know my current employer will not be able to find a job for me as has been the case earlier and he will remove me from payroll soon. Can I start working with new employer and do not resign from my current employer?
I need help on this as I do not want to terminate my job from my side.

a) Apply for H4 by requesting from earlier date(say 2008 November)
b) If she has got H4 stamping then ask her to re-enter USA with H4
I guess both are risky, but these are only the options available unless if someone knows better.
In 2008 My wife applied for H1B and My wife got her H1B approved and along with the approval she got new I-94
valid till Sep 2011.
But she was not able to start working/ find a job due to family reasons and economy conditions.
1. Whether she Out of status since she did not work on her H1?
2. If she starts working now for the employer can she get back the status?
3. What are the ways for her get back to H4 if she not going work?
4. How we can correct her status?
