OK so we're 1 million in the backlog. That could be a small country.
Instead of spending hundreds of thousands on lobbying, we can just buy a piece of land somewhere (big enough to have a passport office building), get immediate citizenship in our new country and then USCIS will be able to process our GC applications within a year.
Someone from Taiwan (and smaller neighboring countries) can get GC in 1 year but if you're from China you will wait 6-10 years. I am not sure of how much cultural differences exist between these two countries, all I know is that my Taiwanese friend speaks Chinese, goes to Chinese church. So much for diversity.
So.. if anyone has the info on how to register a new country, I'd like to know.

For how long will they work overtime to resolve this mess? such bouts as the one we saw in the last two weeks of june are short and few. If they are smart they will flush out the approvable cases early without going thru the EAD cycles year after year.
This is exactly opposite to what they have been doing. If there were 60k approvable cases, i wonder what they were doing all this time. Approving those cases earlier wud have allowed others to get in the system earlier.
Additional VISA numbers may not help anybody, if they don't use them properly

I hired an attorney from murthy for EAD/ AC21 , it was good talking to them. But make sure that, be prepared with all the questions and they tend to side track and don't let them do that. If you feel they are taking irrelevant stuff , interrupt immediately .

You have answered your own question...if Latvia had 2600 visas in EB3 FY 2006 and only 500 visas were used then 2100 are unused. They are transferred to people from other countries.

They will process applications based on receipt date. But approval will happen only if your PD is current. That means if
CASE A with PD 2003
CASE B with PD 2005
CASE C with PD 2007
Say all file in July and if dates gets retrogess some time in OCT or before to 2006.
Say for CASE A and CASE C all process is done( name check,... every thing but not approval) and CASE B is stuck in name check.
then CASE A will be approved because A process is complete and PD is current
CASE B will be pending waiting to clear name check though the PD is current
Once name check done and PD is current this will approve.
CASE C will not be approved though processing is complete PD is not current

Yes, you can, but must not get paid. the work must be volunteer work only. My wife was involved in cardiology research for 3 months while on h4. She was not paid - she was just a volunteer.
I would recommend - not to get into unpaid work stuff. This is from personal experience. My wife was unpaid volunteer at Emory Cardiology research , and was being exploited - they found her to be good at work and started dumping all work to her - she was completing charts of paid employees and was working like hell because they set deadlines for her. We were furious and I pulled her out.
When she requested that they give her a recommendation letter for all the work she did - they were reluctant to do it and started yelling at her and were extremely rude so that she wont ask again - they bullied her into signing a document that would strip her name off all publications. Finally after a lot of persistence and insisting, they gave a letter of recommendation.
The reason I write this stuff is - to warn you all - do not get into this kind of stuff. The world is very exploitative and we cannot trust workplaces or people around us.
Use time on H4 for some good stuff - volunteer for IV or there are so many things you can do.

Hi All,
I applied for my 485 on June 30th 2007, It reached USCIS on July 2nd. On July 2nd morning USCIS announced that all applications will be rejected because there are no VISA numbers. Considering that I went to Mexico on July 12th and got my H1 stamped. Today USCIS has announced that it will accept applications through 8/17/2007.
My question is: In my 485 app. I entered my old I-94# and VISA #. Since I went to Mexico and got my H1 stamped and entered US my I-94 and VISA #'s have changed. Will this be an issue?
I heard that USCIS will verify my status using the I-94 on the 485 form before issuing a 485 reciept. In which case my old I-94 would show that I have left the country & USCIS can abondon my application!! Is this true? Has this happend to any of you?
Please advise.

You should seek legal advice. you are correct in saying that at POE they need to know that you had applied for 485 so that when they issue I-94, your filed petition is still vaild and not considered abandoned.

I think I misread the OP about moving from the flash IDE to flex builder although I strongly prefer both FD and FDT to flex builder..

These are all good suggestions and translate well from my film days. I also read that, whereas in b&w the adage was expose for the shadows and develop (or print) for highlights, in digital it is the reverse - expose to preserve detail in the highlights and then use your curves in RAW to fix the shadows where you want them. So I'll have to put all that to work this week / weekend. If the flowers stay around, that is.

It means the immigration sub-committee will discuss and vote on this issue and it is a positive sign in my view that the democratic leadership is allowing this to go forward. If it passes the subcommittee then it will be sent to the floor and may be scheduled for a vote there. Make the calls people. Your call may make the difference, especially if you are in the congressional district of a key contact, please, please make that call. Make a call and consider it your duty to persuade another colleague do one too.

As for as I knw You can be out of job for any period in EAD. But when they process I485 you need to be in the job. Many unemployed persons are getting GC interview. If you do not get RFE or interview then it is ok even if you are unemployed at the time of receiving gc.

One more thing that you might look into is the vacations that you hae taken. Generally speaking, if you spend time outside the US, you can exclude that time from the H1B 6 year limit. So if you took an average of 2 week vacation every year, you could get about 12 additional weeks. So your H1B would expire closer to Dec end, instead of 30 Sep.
You might need to provide documentation to prove this though. The additional time might be valuable nevertheless.
